Friday of the 7th week of Easter

Acts 25: 13b-21      John 21: 15-19

Theme: Confusion In their camp

In the 1st reading of today from the Acts of the Apostles, we see what can happen in the life a Christian who truly believe in God and live a life that is good and pleasing to God. They have arrested saint Paul, but there is confusion amongst them and a decision could not be reached about the charges that was brought against him. We can easily relate with this situation as Christians and children of God. In any situation we find ourselves in life, the most important thing is for us to be at peace with ourselves and with God. Then we can confidently handover the situation to God, while we continue to pray and do our best. Given this type of situation, victory is almost certain, because it is God that is in control of the situation, and he will raise men and women who will speak on your behalf. It is for us to always be upright and steadfast in our faith in God. However, we must learn to be patient and trust in God’s process, just like St. Paul and so many of our Ancestors in faith. God’s verdict about the situation will come at his own time and in his own way. Just know that his solution is permanent and will be what is best for you.

In the gospel reading of today, Jesus asks Peter three times whether he loves him, at the end of which he handed over God’s ‘flock’ to Peter for him to take care of them. One thing that is very clear is the fact that Jesus knows that if Peter loves him, he will take care of the flock that he is entrusting to him. This is because the flock is very dear to the heart of Jesus, so he does not want them to be like sheep without a shepherd. You and I are part of the flock that means a lot to Jesus, and he handed over to the church through Peter. So, the question today is, as a child of God and a Christian, what is your contribution towards the growth of the body of Christ. What are you doing to promote the kingdom of God here on earth, and taking the word of God to the ends of the earth? This is an invitation to all of us as children of God, to begin to practice in our daily lives, as we strive to establish God’s kingdom here on earth. May the Lord bless his words in our hearts, in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit, Amen. Peace be with you.
