Monday of the 17th week in ordinary time

Ex. 32:15-24.30-34     Mat. 13: 31-35

Theme: Trust in God

In the 1st reading of today from the Book of Exodus, we see how the Israelites broke their covenant with God. They forgot their story with God once again, and decided to Mold a calf for themselves, by serving an idol instead of the God who has always stood with them and brought them out of Egypt with his mighty arm. The question today is, are we different from the Israelites? Have we made the same mistakes or similar ones in our lives as individuals or as a group? Are there moments in our lives when we have forgotten what God have done in our lives, and we begin to grumble because of the situation we have found ourselves? The Lord is encouraging us today to always trust in him, no matter the situation we find ourselves, he will never fail or desert us. It is important to always remember that we cannot fight any battle better than God will do it for us. Trust in him and he will show you that he is God. Whenever we are faced with the difficulties of life, we must trust in God, believing that he will come through for us.

In the life of Moses, we see what it means to be a good leader. After his anger with the people, he still went up the mountain to commune with God and beg for his forgiveness for the people of Israel. He went up to the point of sacrificing himself for the people, even though God rejected it and said it is the person who have sinned that will suffer. In the action of Moses on behalf of the people of Israel we see selflessness, an attribute that is becoming increasingly limited in our time. As children of God and followers of Christ, we are all encouraged to emulate the leadership qualities of Moses in our daily lives. It is a way of life that mirrors Christ, and enthrone God’s presence in our lives, families and in the society in which we live. Never think you cannot do this in your own life, the most important thing is your sincerity of heart, and the grace of God will supply whatever is needed to make it happen.

We pray today that God will grant us the grace to remain steadfast in faith, when things are not going according to our plans, in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit, Amen. Peace be with you.
