Saturday of the 15th week in ordinary time
Exodus 12: 37-42 Mathew 12: 14-21
Theme: The forces of evil
In the gospel reading of today, we see the Pharisees planning on how to destroy Jesus, a man that has not done anything that warrants such an evil plot. All these has to do with the fact that they are jealous of Jesus, because of his growing popularity amongst the people. He is becoming increasingly popular, while they are less popular. They could not stand this fact and are ready to do anything to take Jesus out. Unfortunately for them, they were dealing with Jesus who knew all their plans and was always steps ahead of them. So, their plans failed, because he was able to always stay ahead of them. Ordinarily, one would expect that the Pharisees will be celebrating Jesus like others, but they could not because they were blinded by their evil imaginations.
Dearly beloved in Christ, we have a lot to learn from the gospel reading of today. The first thing we must learn is the fact that there are some people who cannot naturally stand your success and are ready to do anything to make sure that you fail in whatever you are doing. This is the situation in which Jesus found himself in the gospel reading of today, the Pharisees could not stand his success story or popularity among the people, so they are planning to bring all that to an end. What they did not know is the fact that they are fighting a battle that they cannot win, because they are fighting God. So, when at any point in time you encounter such a situation, trust in God, remain steadfast and continue to do your best. If God is with you, your story will end to the glory of God and for your own good. What this simply means is that the Christian journey is not a bed of roses, but God will always come through for you.
The good news is that God will always be by your side to support you at such a time, and this is what we need most at that time. This is the Christian story that our Lord Jesus Christ presents to all his followers. By so doing, preparing us for what awaits us as people who have made the choice to be his followers. It is a journey of both joy and sorrow, and they come at different times in our journey of faith, we must be ready and prepared for whatever comes, trusting in God’s love. As you do this, may almighty God bless you in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit, Amen. Peace be with you.
