Saturday of the 27th week in ordinary time

Galatians 3: 22-29    Luke 11: 27-28

Theme: United in Christ

In our 1st reading of today, St. Paul reminds us that by virtue of our faith in God, we are all heirs of the kingdom. We are all fellow citizens in the house of God. No one is more important than the other; we are all children of God. In view of this, we must do all within our power to guide against things that promote disunity and division in our midst. They come in different forms such as status, race, colour and so forth. All such barriers that have been built amongst us in one way or the other must be removed. Our concern from henceforth should be how we can build bridges that will bring us together and promote Gods reign in the world; and guide against that which separates us and bring about hatred and division. My brothers and sisters in Christ, the reminder of St. Paul in today’s 1st reading, is an invitation to a change of lifestyle as children of God. A way of life that will always make us better children of God and true ambassadors of Christ.

This is very important in our world today, taking into consideration the dissention going on among nations of the world. If only we will put into practice the teaching of St. Paul in today’s 1st reading, barriers and divisions existing amongst us will be pulled down and it will be replaced with the building of bridges that will promote peace, love and unity in our world. This will go a long way towards achieving the prayer for unity of Jesus amongst us, who are his children and people. Like it is said, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a step, it begins with you; do all within your power as an individual to promote unity and love by pulling down, hatred, bitterness, jealousy, gossip and begin to build bridges and promote love, peace and unity wherever you find yourself. As children of God and light of the world, we are called to shine the light in our individual life, before taking it to other people.

Dear friends in Christ, the assertion of Jesus in the gospel of today, will be more meaningful to us if we embrace the fact that we are heirs of the kingdom of God. We must continue to strive to put into practice the word of God that we read and preach. This will help us to become better Christians and help us enthrone Gods presence among his people in a very special way. As you do this, may almighty God bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Peace be with you.
