Saturday of the 33rd week in ordinary time
Rev. 11: 4-12 Luke 20: 27-40
Theme: People of the resurrection
In the gospel reading of today, we see the Sadducees trying to trap Jesus with their tricky question. They raised a question that questions the resurrection. This stems from the fact that as a Jewish sect, they do not believe in any teaching that is not explicitly written in the Pentateuch. Thus, they do not believe in the resurrection from the dead, the Angels and the spirits. It was all in a ploy to discredit Jesus and trap him. But Jesus knowing full well what their plans were, used the opportunity to educate them in such a way that they were disarmed and confounded.
Dearly beloved in Christ, we are children of the resurrection and the answer of Jesus in today’s gospel should mean a lot to us, as it concerns our style of life here on earth and the choices, we make daily. We are all encouraged to live a good life here on earth that will make our life after here a positive one. By implication, if we truly want to behold the beatific vision, then we must live our life like children of the resurrection. We are People who know and believe that our life as a human person does not begin and end here on earth. The choices we make in our daily life, will determine what will happen at the end.
The response to our psalm today says, “Blessed be the Lord my rock”. This is an assertion that should make a lot of sense to us as people who believe in the resurrection. If we have this firm belief about our God, it will go a long way towards encouraging us to do all within our power to live a life that is good and pleasing to God. He never fails or disappoints those who trust in him; suffice it to say that we serve a faithful God that is tested, trusted and reliable. Let us continue to do our best and allow the grace of God to supply whatever is left, to the glory of God and our own good too.
