Tuesday of the 2nd week of Advent year A
Theme: No one will perish
In the two readings we have today, we see the extent God is ready to go for you and I to be saved. He willingly goes out of his way to ensure that we are fine and do not get lost. His desire for us is that we have life in abundance and not for us to perish. This comes out very clearly in the gospel reading of today; when Jesus talks about leaving the ninety nine in search of the one that has gone astray and not with the others. This points out the fact that his desire for all his people is that everyone one of us is saved, except the one who refuses to be among those that are saved. Dearly beloved in Christ, the desire of Jesus is that we all remain on the path that will lead us to eternal life, his grace is always at our disposal and it is sufficient for us in any given situation we find ourselves in life.
My brothers and sisters in Christ, the fact that Jesus desires that we all have life in abundance is very good and timely, especially during this season of Advent; when we are all encouraged to prepare as we await the coming of Jesus Christ. It is an opportunity for us to correct the things in our life that we know is not good and will not help us attain salvation at the end of our earthly pilgrimage. The quest to become a worthy ambassador for Christ is laudable and we are all encouraged to do all within power and trusting in God’s grace to make it happen in our lives. The gospel reading of today also points out the fact that God does not give up on anyone one of us when we go astray, rather he gives us the opportunity to retrace our steps and return back to him. So our desire to return back to him willingly is also important, especially when we are conscious of our actions and know they are not good or right.
Dearly beloved in Christ, the assertion of the prophet Isaiah in today’s first reading should be a great source of strength and hope to us, as we continue to work hard and prepare for the coming of Jesus Christ. We are all encouraged to trust in the loving mercy of God, as we continue to strive to make heaven. May the Lord bless his words in our hearts in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Peace be with you.
