Monday of the Holy Week
Isaiah 42: 1-7 John 12: 1-11
Theme: The voice of the voiceless
In the 1st reading from the first song of the servant of the Lord, a mandate is given to the prophet Isaiah to be the voice of the voiceless and the oppressed in the society. This is the same mandate that is given to you and me as Christians from today’s liturgy. We are invited to be the mouthpiece of all whose voices cannot be heard in our society. Dear friends in Christ, this is one task that we must take seriously during this Holy Week, trusting in the grace of God to support us in achieving this wonderful mission of Christ.
We are all children of God and must guide against the temptation of been on the side of the oppressors because of what we stand to gain or because of our greed; we must resist that temptation and make a difference wherever we find ourselves. Let us make honest and sincere effort to be a source of hope for all those who have lost faith in people because of their personal experiences. Simply put, let us be a source of strength and hope to the voiceless in our society and give them a reason to live in hope for a better tomorrow. No matter our present situation, it is never too late to begin this wonderful journey of faith.
Dearly beloved in Christ, on face value, the assertion of Judas that the ointment should be sold, and the money given to the poor is a plausible one. But Jesus was able to read his mind to know that he did not say that because he loved the poor, but because it was an opportunity to enrich himself. Sometimes some of us behave like Judas Iscariot; we hide our selfish interest under the guise of doing something good; just know that it is unchristian and evil, so desist from it.
May God grant us the grace to always be the voice of the voiceless and be upright in our dealings with one another. May almighty God bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. Peace be with you.
