Wednesday of the 2nd week of Easter
Acts 5: 17-26 John 3: 16-21
Theme: God is faithful
In the 1st reading of today from the Acts of the Apostles, we see how far jealousy can lead an individual or a group of people. In this case it was the High Priest and the Sadducees, and this led to the arrest of the Apostles, and they were placed in the prison. What they did that gave rise to this jealousy, is simply because they were preaching about the resurrected Christ and performing wonders in his name. They were gradually gaining the trust and acceptance of the people and the high priest, and the Sadducees were not comfortable with this development, because it was making them unpopular and the Apostles popular. Interestingly, they were released from the prison at night by an Angel, without the knowledge of those who put them in prison, they only found out in the morning. This goes to show that any situation we find ourselves because of our worship of God, he will always be with us; he cannot desert us at such a time.
In everything we do in life, we must always make sure that we are on the side of God. Following the ways of the world, most times if not always, will move us away from what God wants from us. However, choosing to be always on the side of God, does not mean that everything will be moving smoothly for us, it simply means that at the end we will be proud of the outcome. This does not rule out the fact that it can be very discomforting to decide that we want things done the way God wants it. This is the position of the Apostles, and they were ready to face the difficulties that will emanate from the choice they made, so we also need such a disposition to face the challenges that we may encounter.
In the gospel reading of today from St. John, we are reminded of Gods love, that led him to send his son Jesus Christ to the world for our salvation. This is the same God we are still worshipping in our own time, he has not changed, he is the same yesterday, today and forever. Just trust in him, be prayerful and continue to do your best, he is ever faithful and will not disappoint you. May the Lord bless you, in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit, Amen. Peace be with you.
