Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Theme: Mary is our Queen
Today as the church celebrates the memorial of the Queenship of our Mother Mary; it presents us an opportunity to reflect on her role in our journey of faith. This is very important because from the very beginning she had a positive disposition towards the role she was called to play by God in the history of our salvation. Her heroic virtues from the very beginning is worthy of emulation by you and I as his children. The title given to her as our Queen is very befitting for her role in the history of our salvation, and also in the way and manner in which she played her role as both a mother and a wife in the Holy Family. She continues to care for all of us as her children, through the power of her intercession on our behalf to her son Jesus Christ. As we celebrate her today, it is an opportunity for us to also increase our devotion to her; in different ways.
Dearly beloved in Christ, we celebrate the Queenship of Mary today because of her role in the history of our salvation and the way she lived her life. In the same way, in the 1st reading of today, we see St. Paul appreciating the Thesselonian church for their uprightness and way of life. This is because, whatever is good is good, no one can change it and good people will always appreciate it. The assertion of Paul to the Thesselonian church is as a result of their faith and love for each other, which reflects in their worshipping community. In such a community, there are bound to be growth and peace; because they look out for one another. In the same way, we are all encouraged to also cultivate this type of practice in our faith community and do all within our power to promote the kingdom of God here on earth; through the love that we show one another, instead of gossips, jealousy and envy.
Jesus is hard on the Scribes and Pharisees today in the gospel of Mathew, and he calls them blind guides who are leading others astray. The assertion of Jesus to them today is also saying something to all of us as children of God. In your dealings with people are you honest and sincere or you often times have a hidden agenda that will favour you? Or externally you present a front that is misleading and does not represent your intentions?
We pray that through the intercession of our Mother Mary whose feast we celebrate today, we will emulate her in our word and deed; in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Peace be with you.
