Isaiah 10: 5-7.13-16     Mathew 11: 25-27

Theme: Those who trust in themselves

In today’s 1st reading from the prophet Isaiah, we see what may happen to those who trust in themselves and in their connections. Assyria was a strong force to reckon with during the time of the prophet Isaiah, and they had a strong army with which they go to war and get victory. As a result of their strength, other kings around were afraid of incurring the anger of the Assyrians; just like we see in the action of king Ahaz. What the Assyrians pretended not to know was the fact that it is God that grants us victory and not necessarily the strength of our army, so to say.

My brothers and sisters in Christ just like the Assyrians some of us make the costly mistake of trusting in ourselves and our connections very arrogantly. We forget the fact that in every situation we find ourselves in life, it is God that has the final say. After doing what we should do humanly speaking, what is left is left in hands of God who will decide what will happen in every given situation. It is good to acknowledge our capabilities as human person, but in humility, knowing fully well that everything is dependent on God who has the final say. Simply put, we must learn to always acknowledge the presence of God in every victory that is recorded in our life.

In the gospel reading of today, we see Jesus acknowledging the wisdom of God, an assertion that points out the fact that the ways of God are different from our human ways. His actions are different from our own. Jesus extols his Father for exposing the secrets of the kingdom to little children. My brothers and sisters in Christ, Jesus is simply saying that what we need is the disposition of infants if we truly want to reach out to him. He uses the infants because they have an open and pure heart, with evil and malice. They are unassuming and approach things with a sincere heart that is devoid of any form of evil or guile.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, in everything that we do, we must trust in God and approach him with humility, if we truly want to enjoy his friendship in our life. We pray today that God will grant us the grace to remain steadfast in the faith, no matter the situation we find ourselves. May almighty God bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Peace be with you.
