Saturday of the 25th week in ordinary time

Ecclesiastes 11: 9-12: 8    Luke 9: 43b-45

Theme: Remember your creator

The Book of Ecclesiastes continues to admonish us to make good use of our youth and the time we have on earth. It encourages us to serve God in our youth when we still have the strength and all that is required to take the word of God to the ends of the earth. This admonition is very important to all of us as children of God, taking into consideration the fact that vanity of vanity, all is vanity. We are all encouraged to make good use of the time that God has given to us on earth. We do not know how much time is left for each one of us, so we must use the time that we have to prepare ourselves to meet Christ whenever he calls us to himself. The question we need to reflect on today is, as you live your life, are you conscious of the fact that a day will come when you must give account to your creator on how you lived your life? Let this awareness guide you in the way you live your life, so that there will be no regrets at the end of your earthly life.

Dear friends in Christ, the 1st reading of today is encouraging us to always be conscious of the presence of God in everything that we do in our lives. That way, it will be easier for us to stay away from the works of darkness that are not pleasing to God. By so doing, we will live our lives like true children of God that we are called to be. No matter the situation you find yourself in life, never loose sight of God’s presence in your life and in everything that you do. This is very important, because it will help us to remain focussed and continue to live our lives like people who understand that all does not begin and end here on earth. Remember, the fact that you are still alive simply means that God is not yet done with you. Your situation now may not be what you want, continue to work hard, trust in God and have faith. He will come through for you at his appointed time.

The assertion of Jesus in St. Luke’s gospel today, should continue to strengthen our faith and trust in God in times of difficulties and the challenges of life. Jesus made it clear today that his victory lies on the cross, but unfortunately his disciples do not understand what he meant. May God grant us the grace to live our lives in a way that is pleasing to him, in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit, Amen. Peace be with you.
