Monday of the 27th week in ordinary time
Galatians 1: 6-12 Luke 10: 25-37
Theme: Faithfulness to the word
Today the church celebrates the memorial of our Lady of the rosary. A celebration that reminds us about the importance of the rosary in our lives as Catholics. We are all encouraged in this month of our mother Mary to pray the rosary more than ever, for our needs and the needs of the world. In the 1st reading from St. Paul’s letter to the Galatians, he encouraged the people to remain faithful and steadfast to the word of God, and not to be deceived by teachings that are contrary to the word of God that he taught them.
In the same way, he is equally admonishing us all as children of God, not to allow the difficulties of life to make us go astray; by following teachings that are contrary to what the word of God presents to us. This admonition of St. Paul in today’s 1st reading is very important to us as Christians in our own time. Taking into consideration the fact that many of us as Christians in our own time, are moving from place to place in search of solution to the challenges we are going through in our life. As a result of which many Christians have gone astray, by getting involved with practices that are contrary to the word of God and what we represent as Christians and children of God.
Dear friends in Christ, faithfulness to the word of God is a strong tower for all those who believe and stand by it. The word of God cannot fail or lead us astray. The most important thing is for us to take it seriously and make honest and sincere effort to live it out in our daily life. The word of God is a source of great strength for all those who make effort and live by it. In the word of God, we will find peace and encounter God in a very special way. That is why we must continue to make honest effort to live it out in our daily life and pray for the grace of God to sustain us when our strength fails us.
Dearly beloved in Christ, the question presented to Jesus in the gospel by the lawyer and the response of Jesus, points out the fact that the word of God is rich and entails all we need to be good children of God and Christians. The most important thing is our desire to do all within our power to live it out in our daily life. The neighbour presented to us today in the gospel by Jesus can be any of us. We all have what it takes to be that neighbour that is described in the parable of Jesus. The most important thing is, are you ready to be that good neighbour that comes to the assistance of those around you that need your help? In our own little ways, we can respond to the needs of our brothers and sisters, just like the good Samaritan in the gospel. As you strive to do this, may almighty God bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Peace be with you.
