Wednesday of the 27th week in ordinary time

Galatians 2: 1-2.7-14    Luke 11: 1-4

Theme: Prayer is the key

In the gospel reading of today, the disciples of Jesus requested that Jesus should teach them how to pray, just as John taught his disciples how to pray. This goes a long way in showing the importance of prayer in the life of a follower of Christ. Jesus did not hesitate, but rather went ahead to teach them the Lord’s Prayer. In the life of Jesus, prayer was central and very important to him. That is why in the scripture, Jesus always found time to go aside and commune with his heavenly father. He believed so much in the power of prayer, not minding the fact that he was also God. He made out time to always pray before making any major decision in his life. In view of this, a life of prayer is a necessity for you and I as followers of Christ. It is a practice that we must imbibe in our life and family, irrespective of what we are passing through at any point in time in our lives as followers of Christ and children of God. It is often said that a prayerful Christian is a powerful Christian. This is because prayer is the master key that can unlock any difficulty or challenging situation that we will ever encounter in our lives.

Dear friends in Christ, never allow the difficulties and storms of life to keep you away from praying. It should rather be at such moments that we have to get closer to God. Every effort that we make at such times towards expressing our faith and trust in God; never goes unrewarded by God. The fact that Jesus always made out time to always pray, should be enough incentive for us to make honest and sincere effort to imbibe the spirit of prayer in our personal life and in our families.

Dearly beloved in Christ, prayer is one of our weapons of warfare, against our bad habits and the forces bent on dominating us as children of God. We must take it seriously in our life and continue to strive as children of God to imbibe it as a way of life for ourselves and our circle of influence. May God grant us the grace to be prayerful Christians. As we do this, may almighty God bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Peace be with you.
