Monday of the 29th week in ordinary time

Ephesians 2: 1-10     Luke 12: 13-21

Theme: The love and mercy of God

In the 1st reading of today, St. Paul is reminding the Ephesian church of where they are coming from and what God did to free them from the sins they have committed and enslaved themselves. The love and mercy of God for his people is beyond human understanding. Not minding the fact that we have derailed from the path that God has set for us when he freed us from the bond of sin, some of us through our way of life, are still returning to that path that is not of God. Interestingly, Paul tells us today that God’s plans for us has not changed, even with the mistakes we have made by returning to the way that God has already freed us. With the coming of Jesus, we see love, grace and mercy at work. He gives us hope for a better future that is good and pleasing in the sight of God.

Dearly beloved in Christ, just know that God never gives up on us, irrespective of the mistakes we may have made in our lives, he is always ready to forgive us and welcome us back whenever we make such a mistake. Always remember that God never give up on you, no matter the situation you find yourself, so why do you give up, as if you do not trust God and what he can do in your life. Let the assertion of St. Paul in today’s 1st reading always be a source of great strength for you, especially when things are not going the way you want it. All you need to do at such a time is to continue to pray, work hard and trust in God. Remember, there is nothing too great for our God to do, so your situation cannot overwhelm him, no matter the situation you may find yourself.

It is important today that we retrace our steps and return to the path of life, which Jesus won for us on the cross of calvary. This is the invitation presented to us today by St. Paul, we are now children of the light, and the works of darkness have no place any more in our lives. God has paid the supreme price by sending his son Jesus Christ to go to calvary and die for us. What is now left is for us to make honest effort to remain on the path that God has marked out for us, that will lead us to eternal life. May the Lord bless his words in our hearts, in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit, Amen. Peace be with you.
