Ephesians 3: 2-12     Luke 12: 39-48

Theme: We are all heirs

In the 1st reading from St. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, he points out the fact that we are all heirs of the kingdom, there is nothing that makes the Gentiles less than the Jews. This assertion presented to us today, should re-awaken our consciousness about the fact that we are among the chosen people of God. It is only you who can count yourself out of God’s chosen people, through the kind of life you lead. As heirs of the kingdom, it automatically means that we are children of light, and the works of darkness have no place in our life. In view of this, there must be conscious effort from us to always live a good and holy life. We are not yet perfect, but we will continue to strive after perfection as people who truly desire to be one with God and make heaven at the end of our life here on earth.

Dearl beloved in Christ, the divisions that we have amongst us in the world today are created by us, in one way or the other. God has broken all the barriers that separate the Jews from the Gentiles, as seen in our 1st reading of today. We create these divisions because of our selfish interests, and not for the common good of all. This is an invitation for us to see each other as brothers and sisters and bring down the demarcations and walls that we have built around our self for selfish reasons. To achieve this fact in our lives as individuals will be a step in the right direction towards the assertion of Jesus in the gospel reading of today.

Jesus encourages us in the gospel to be ready and always prepared, because we do not know the day or hour. What he is simply saying is that we live a good life that is pleasing to God and will help us make heaven whenever the time comes. We must live our life here conscious of the life after here. This is because our life here on earth, if properly lived will prepare us for a better life after here. This is a very important reminder for all of us as children of God, because sometimes some of us tend to live our lives as if we do not believe that our destination is not here on earth.

We pray for the grace to live a life that will help us attain salvation at the end. May almighty God bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Peace be
