Wednesday of the10th week in the ordinary time

Theme: The God that answers by fire

In the 1st reading of today, we see the scenario between the prophet Elijah and the prophets of Baal. It is a fight between light as represented by the prophet Elijah and darkness as represented by the prophets of Baal. As always, light will always triumph over darkness; and that is exactly what happened in this case too. The faith of the prophet Elijah is worthy of emulation by all of us as children of God. In his assertions in this challenge, his faith in God was never in doubt. This says a lot to you and I as Christians in our own time.

When we are faced with difficult moments in our lives, do we lose our faith in God or we remain resolute and steadfast in faith like the prophet Elijah? One thing we must always remember at all times is the fact that when we call upon God in faith, he responds to our request; he never disappoints us. The main challenge is that at such moments, many Christians lose their faith in God and begin to go from place to place in search of solution to their problem; forgetting that it is God that has the final say about any situation we find ourselves in life. My brothers and sisters in Christ let this consciousness always guide us in any situation that we find ourselves in life. God never deserts all those who trust in him in their time of need.

In the gospel reading, Jesus tells us that he did not come to abolish the law and the prophets, but rather to fulfil them. Law is a necessity in every society, for the sake of order and peace. In view of this, we are all encouraged to put the commandments of God into practice and also help others to do the same. Any society without law cannot stand the test of time; there will be chaos.

May God grant us increase in faith, when we are faced with the difficulties of life. May almighty God bless his words in our hearts in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Peace be with you.
