Saturday of the 11th week of the ordinary time
Theme: Seek the kingdom of God
The gospel reading of today, presents to us very important points that will help us become good children of God. Jesus gives us a road map that will guide us to attain salvation at the end of our earthly pilgrimage. We are all encouraged to trust more in God and worry less about the passing things of the world. This will go a long way in helping us to live a life that is worthy of emulation and will help us to attain salvation at the end of our earthly pilgrimage. Simply put, Jesus encourages us today to go after the things that truly matters in our life, and not the passing things that the world is presenting to us and will not help us to attain salvation at the end. To be able to achieve this in our life, then we have to serve God as our master, not like the action of Joash the king and his people in today’s 1st reading.
They all forgot what God has done for them and started worshipping idols, by so doing choosing mammon as their master instead of choosing the God of their father who has always stood for them in good times and in bad times. Joash the king incurred the wrought of God when he gave a command that Zachariah should be stoned to death, forgetting what his father did for him in the past. My brothers and sisters in Christ, to forget where we are coming from in life, is to be ungrateful to God. Sometimes we see some of us acting in a similar way like Joash the king. Like it is said, never forget the person who gave you an umbrella to cover yourself while it was raining in your life; events may lead you to him again in the future.
Dearly beloved in Christ, let us live our life like true children of God, whose master is truly God. And God will continue to bless everything that concerns us. As we continue to strive for perfection, may almighty God bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Peace be with you.
