Tuesday of the first week of advent
Theme: A great future
As we continue to stay awake and prepare for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, the prophet Isaiah presents us a prophecy that is full of joy and hope for the future. He talks about a future when everything will be guided by the love of God and neighbor. A society where there will be peace, joy, unity and true friendship amongst both humans and animals alike. A society where there will be no hatred, envy, jealousy, division, wars and so forth. This is a society where love will reign supreme and the works of darkness have no place in it, because the light of Christ has taken total control of everything in existence. This is the type of society that the prophet is talking about, and as children of God are encouraged to continue to prepare as we await the coming of Gods kingdom.
My brothers and sisters in Christ, in the gospel reading of today Jesus applaud his disciples for the privilege that they enjoy, that others do not have. In the same way, you and I as children of God are also privileged people, because the word of God continues to open up the reality of life to you and I repeatedly; what you do with it as an individual is dependent on the choices you make in your daily life. Just like the disciples of Jesus, we have to make honest and sincere effort to ensure that the knowledge of God that we have will increase our chances of beholding the beatific vision at the end of our earthly pilgrimage.
This consciousness should always direct our words and actions at all times, especially during this season of advent; as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of our savior Jesus Christ. This is an invitation for us to continue to strive to live a good life that is worthy of a child of God and a disciple of Christ at all times.
