Saturday of the 3rd week of Advent year A

Theme: Gods plan

The church in her wisdom takes us back to the beginning from the Book of Genesis. Jacob called his sons together and gave them a prophecy that involved them and will be fulfilled in the future, and everything happened according to his prophecy. This should strengthen our faith about the word of God. In the same way our readings during this season of Advent has been giving us prophecies that is fulfilled in the person of Jesus.

This is reiterated in the response to our psalm today which says, “In his days justice shall flourish, and great peace forever”. My brothers and sisters in Christ, what are you doing about the prophetic messages we have being hearing since the beginning of Advent? We are all encouraged to take them seriously as we prepare and await the coming of our savior Jesus Christ. Let us strive to be among those who will partake of this wonderful future that the word of God is presenting to us during this season of Advent.

The genealogy of Jesus in today’s gospel should strengthen our faith and resolve to continue to work hard to attain salvation. Never at any point in time feel you are not good enough for salvation, because of the way you have lived your life in the past. This is because in the genealogy of Jesus, you will realize that it is made up of both saints and sinners. No matter our way of life or situation, God is ever ready to give us another opportunity to make amends for our failings and retrace our steps. In view of this, we are all encouraged today to trust God and continue to strive to become a better person. His grace is ever sufficient for all those who make effort to reach out to him.

May God grant us the grace to always strive for holiness of life, in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Peace be with you.
