Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Theme: The heart of love

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Today’s celebration presents to us the opportunity to appreciate and celebrate the love that flows down to us from the loving Heart of Jesus. Today we also join the world to pray for the sanctification of priests, just like our Lord and master Jesus Christ. As we celebrate the sacred heart that is full of love today, we pray that the lives of priests all over the world will be illumined by the love that emanates from the heart of Jesus Christ that we celebrate today.

In the three readings we have in our liturgy today, we see the love of God resounding in all of them. Jesus is presented to us today as the Good Shepherd who is not willing to lose any of his sheep, but would rather go after them to bring them back to the fold. This shows us the depth of love that emanates from the heart of Jesus. The love of God for you and I is what gave rise to Jesus taking our human form; and died on the cross for our salvation while we were still sinners. The love we celebrate today, is awesome and worthy of praise and emulation. Jesus paid the supreme price with his blood and reconciled us to his father.

The good shepherd presented to us in the 1st reading and in the gospel, is an invitation for us to emulate and allow that same love to guide all our actions in our relationship with one another and also with God. Let us be givers and carriers of sincere love in our daily lives. We don’t just enjoy the love, mercy, compassion, and peace that emanates from the heart of Jesus, we also have to spread same in our personal life, to make the world a better place for all of us.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, let us emulate Jesus by not giving up on anybody just like Jesus the good shepherd. But rather try our best to reconcile them to the fold, instead of keeping them away with our attitude and gossips. Kindly remember your priests in your personal prayers. May the sacred heart of Jesus keep us in his love, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Peace be with you.
