The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Feast)

Theme: Mary our Mother

Today the church celebrates the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Happy Birthday to our mother Mary!  It is another opportunity for us as a church and her children to celebrate and appreciate her wonderful works in our lives, as we do annually. She has done so much for us by accepting the message of the Angel Gabriel to be the mother of our saviour Jesus Christ. In her word and deed, she presents to us a true mother and wife that is worthy of emulation by all her children. She lived a life that continues to challenge mothers and wives in our own time; a woman of great virtue. That is why as we celebrate her today, it is an opportunity for us to appreciate what she is doing in our life and what she will continue to do. We all have different reasons why we have decided to celebrate her with the church today.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, what is the birthday gift you have decided to present to our mother Mary as we celebrate her today. This is something that is personal, and it is left for you as an individual to decide what your gift to our mother will be, on a day like this. Some people may decide to cut a cake and share with other people. Some others may decide to dress the Grotto of our mother Mary. Some others may take flower to our mother Mary. Some others may decide to attend her birthday mass. Some others may decide to present the decades of the rosary to her. There are so many other things we can do to celebrate her and say happy birthday. The most important thing is that we try to present anything of our choice to her today as a birthday present. I am sure it will be greatly appreciated by our mother Mary in her own way.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, there is nothing we do today as we celebrate our mother Mary that will be more than what she did for us and will continue to do for us. She has placed her maternal mantle over us as her children and continues to intercede for us in our challenging moments in life. We pray that through the intercession of our mother Mary, there will be increase in the devotion to her. May almighty God bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Peace be with you.
