Wednesday of the 9th week in the ordinary time of the year A

Theme: Trusted and reliable God

In the 1st reading of today, we see the continuation of the story of Tobit. A good and upright man, who was going through pains and difficulties because of his blindness. He has been mocked by the people and he goes to God in prayer, begging that God take his life. This was the prayer of pain from an upright man directly to God. His situation can be referred to as a very painful one, because he has lived a good life and served God sincerely. He got tired of his situation and could no longer stand the taunts of the people and rather preferred that God takes his life, instead of continuing in pain and misery. One thing that will help us to truly appreciate the situation of Tobit is the fact that he is an upright man going through all this difficulties and pains. His prayer was a sincere one from the depth of his pain and misery.

Also, in the 1st reading we also see the pains and sorrows that Sarah was going through in Media, through the attack of Asmodeus, a demon that has killed her seven husbands. She has also been mocked by the people like Tobit, and she was in great misery and pain and presented her situation to God in prayer, so that God will take her life. Sarah was also ready to die, to bring her pain and misery to an end. This was an honest prayer that was coming from the depth of her pain and misery. Interestingly, God answered the prayers of both Tobit and Sarah, by sending Angel Raphael who connected his son Tobiah to Sarah. With Gods intervention there was healing and restoration.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, this is the same God that we are still serving in our own time, he has not changed. He is still faithful and reliable. No matter what you are going through right now in your life, people may be mocking you and all, just trust God and continue to look up to him while you present it to him in prayer. He knows you more than you know yourself. He will intervene at his own time, and he never comes late. Just trust in him and don’t allow your present situation to make you give up on God, he will never give up on you. Present that situation to him in prayer today and watch him take control. May the Lord bless his words in our hearts, in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit. Amen. Peace be with you.
