Friday of the 16th week in ordinary time year A

Ex. 20: 1-17       Mat. 13: 18-23

Theme: What type of fruits are you bearing

The parable of the Sower has been coming to us in our gospel reading for some time now. The emphasis gives us the opportunity to truly reflect on this gospel passage and tell ourselves the truth. We are told today that it is those who hear the word and understand it that will bear fruit. To understand it simply means we must practice the word of God in our daily life. It is an invitation that the church continues to present to us, and we must make an honest effort to respond to it positively.

The most important thing in this situation is our resolve to do all we can to put the word of God into practice in our lives. It is not going to be automatic, so do not be discouraged if you don’t see the changes that you expect immediately. It is a process and will come gradually. Even when you make mistakes along the way, do not be discouraged and decide to stop making effort. Rather pick up yourself like Jesus did on the way to calvary and continue your journey to self-discovery. Giving up should never be an option, especially when things seem to be going differently from your expectations.

Remember, the most important thing in this our journey of faith is the amount of effort we are willing to put into becoming who God wants us to people. The more we make honest effort to put the word of God into practice in our daily lives, the more we will be bearing fruits for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Our resolve to do what is good and right by obeying the word of God is very important. We see that also in the 1st reading from the Book of Exodus. The people are reminded about the laws of God that was given to Moses, as a guide for the people of Israel and by extension all Gods people. The more we make effort to practice the laws of God in our daily lives, the more we will continue to bear good fruits, by making our way to heaven and helping others to make heaven equally.

The most important thing for me today, is that we continue to make honest effort to put the word of God into practice in our daily lives. So that on the last day it will stand for us and not against us, because we have made honest effort to practice it and help others to do the same. As we continue to do this, may almighty God bless us in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit. Amen. Peace be with you.
