Friday of the 3rd week in ordinary time

2 Tim. 1: 1-8      Luke 10: 1-9

Theme: Collaboration in ministry

Today the church celebrates the memorial of saints Timothy and Titus, Bishops of the church. These were two great men who worked zealously with St. Paul in his mission. They were wonderful companions of St. Paul in the mission of Christ. So, you can understand the wonderful words of encouragement that is coming from St. Paul in the 1st reading of today, to strengthen the faith of Timothy, so that he will continue to be a worthy instrument in the hand of God, as he propagates the good news of Christ.

Companionship in the ministry is very important, a time would come when you would need each other in the mission. We see in the gospel reading of today, how Jesus sent out his disciples two by two, to visit the places that he himself intends to also visit. As he sends them out on this mission, he strengthens their faith and prepare them for what they are likely going to encounter as they begin the mission. He begins by equipping them with the power and the spiritual gifts that they need for their mission to be a successful one. He also went further by telling them about the challenges they are likely to meet as they deal with the people and how they should handle any situation they find themselves. One can confidently say that Jesus prepared those he is sending out into the mission with what they need for a successful mission.

The success story of saints Timothy and Titus is what we are celebrating today in our liturgy. They worked very hard with St. Paul for the success of Gods mission, and they willingly gave all they had for the sake of Gods mission. They were hardworking and selfless, all in a bid to ensure the success of Gods mission. It is on that note that we all are encouraged to be part of Gods mission by contributing our quota towards the spread of the good news of Christ. You don’t have to be a priest or a religious before you can do this, let it begin with your circle of influence. You can begin by witnessing for Christ in the way you live your daily life, and you will be winning souls for Christ, as you also make your way to heaven. As you do this, may almighty God bless you in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit, Amen. Peace be with you.
